THE MELANASTER BAND
Marley Carroll's 2007 debut album, Melanaster, is the result of meticulous bedroom alchemy by a prodigious multi-instrumentalist. It sounds like a lost Radiohead LP submerged in ten feet of salt water.
Carroll created Melanaster entirely on his own. The album's touchstones are found in the space between the beautiful haze of early-Nineties shoegaze rock (My Bloody Valentine) and the skittish rhythmic experimentalism of early-2000s IDM (Autechre, Squarepusher). The result is smeared, melancholy pop songs tethered to abstract electronic rhythms.
Carroll assembled The Melanaster Band to take these songs to the stage. The group came together serendipitously in Asheville, NC - five accomplished musicians with backgrounds that couldn't be more different. Billy Cardine (dobro) and Barrett Smith (guitar) are seasoned bluegrass players, while Ryan Lassiter (drums) and Jake Wolf (bass) are versed in the modern jazz language.
At the helm is Carroll, an award-winning scratch DJ, electronic musician and multi-instrumentalist. These disparate influences merge to create a beautifully layered sound that evokes My Morning Jacket, Radiohead, and Death Cab for Cutie, with an earthy touch of Americana. The live presence of The Melanaster Band is a gift to fans of music everywhere.

"Gorgeously subdued glitch pop." - NPR
"Once I bought this CD I listened to it pretty much non-stop" - Zane Carney (of Carney)

IF YOU WANNAS
When listening to the If You Wannas, the most immediately noticeable thing isn’t what they do well, but how they manage to click all cylinders at once. This band is a tight rock ‘n’ roll machine which takes its nods from both Fugazi and My Morning Jacket, the rhythm section of Trevor Stoia and Jacob Baumann create a level of tension and terseness that simultaneously grates against and gels with guitarists Ryan Cox and Gavin Conner’s laconic country infused strum and whine. It’s a cacophony that you can sing and dance along with, and it’s all by design.
“We go for hooks,” says Cox. “I try to write what I would want to listen to, and that’s a three-minute-long song. We want people to go home and remember something on the way home.”

MOBLEY
Originally founded in North Carolina by lead singer and songwriter Anthony Watkins II and later joined by bassist Tim Shelburne Jr., Mobley took its current shape during the summer of 2008. A cross-country move and 7 months of practice and preparation later, they're hard at work trying to prove themselves as one of Austin's most promising young bands.
The songs draw from a wealth of influences, often tied together with only as much thread as is necessary for coherence. What results is a repetoire that, by virtue of its diversity, truly transports the listener. Nowhere is this fact more clear than when you see the band live. It's a set comprised of contrasting moods and moments: an anthemic blitz of guitars and wired synths; a falsetto croon slinking out over drum-bass groove straight out of '73; a music box lullaby bursting into chamber pop or keening alt-country or glitzy dance rock. All of these sounds are complimented by a stunning video/light component and performed by musicians that command the stage with a presence that belies their youth and a vigor that proves it.
Infectiously energetic, meticulous in their passion, and unmistakably honest, Mobley has crafted a distinctive brand of indie rock that is smart, catchy, and melodic. Give them a listen... you're likely to agree.

"...like all the best Dear Science-era TV on the Radio grooves." -Austin360.com

Dark Shave: At a time when popular music has devolved into a lifeless and formulaic auditory spankfest, the Dark Shave proudly presents its own unique brand of musical entertainment. Facing a world controlled by the depraved, exceptionally unscrupulous elite, the Dark Shave fights back with its incendiary socio-political commentary and highly juvenile sense of humor. The band is constantly striving for uniqueness by mixing tight compositions with catchy pop and a serious message with a blissfully mindless one. Having hand-picked only the finest musical influences, the Dark Shave has mushed them all into a big juicy musical ball of rock, and wants to share it with you. For videos of live performance, search for "dark shave" at youtube.com

Large Lewis: Formed in 1994 as "Lamont You Big Dummy". We played a few gigs then went separate ways for a year or so. We regrouped in 1996 as Secret Mountain Jam Society and played many gigs and recorded one album in 1997 before splitting again later the same year. Twelve years have now passed and Secret Mountain are back together under the new name of Large Lewis and the new album is finally done. The songs that you will hear on this page are recordings made in December 2007 and some rough mixes from the upcoming album. Special thanks go to Harvey for spending so much time making these recordings. The album finally got mastered in june and the printing will be done by next month. We plan on having the cd release party sometime in october and hopefully a small tour to promote it will follow. We are now also playing new material which hopefully will be recorded in december for the second album. Thanks to all of our friends, fans, and all of you for the continued support you've shown....you know who you are!!!! Cheers! All live photos courtesy of Frank Merenda at www.mindblowingphotos.com.

ONE WORLD Entertainment presents ...

MARTYN (3024|Tectonic|Hyperdub|Netherlands)
with special guests
Lorn (Brainfeeder|Milwaukee),
Marley Carroll(Melanaster|Mr. Invisible|Asheville),
and Cleofus Williams (Temple of Boom|Freq Lab|Asheville)

Martyn has provided body moving funk to dance floors since the mid nineties. A love for Detroit techno, Chicago house and hiphop fueled his need to be seriously involved in music. When exposed to drum & bass in 1995, Martyn was destined to take things further musically and began to lay the foundations of his career as a DJ, producer and promoter.

In 2005, Martyn’s own productions started surfacing in the drum & bass scene, and in Autumn of 2005 the first high profile releases for Martyn made it to the shops on play:music and Marcus Intalex’s Revolve:r imprint. Martyn’s close involvement with Revolve:r/Soul:r crystallized with another 12" and four tracks on Soul:r’s compilation CD "Dat:Music" released in December 2006. In 2007 Martyn took the world by surprise with "Broken" and "Shadowcasting," a sizzling dubstep 12" release that came out on Revolve:r. These two tracks were definitely a breakthrough for Martyn into the wider dance music scene, as his music is now being recognized by DJ’s in the techno, house and dubstep world. His tracks have been receiving healthy radio and dj play by great names such as Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, Ricardo Villalobos, Laurent Garnier, Ame, Mark Pritchard, Skream, Kode9, Flying Lotus, The Bug, Pole, Attias, Luciano, Underground Resistance and Appleblim of Skull Disco. Full of musical ideas, Martyn finished an EP for Revolver – "After Seven / JW on a Good Night / Storm Watch," a 12" for Appleblim’s Applepips label, and his remix for Leeds-based Hessle Audio (the mighty TRG – "broken heart martyns DCM mix") instantly turned Martyn into a highly in-demand remixer. Over the course of 2008, he remixed Black Pocket (aka Steve Spacek), Shut Up and Dance, Flying Lotus (on Warp), Shed (on Ostgut Ton) and remix for Ican (planet E, UR). With every release his fusion of techno, dub and dusty old samples receives more exploration.

Teaming up with old friend Erosie (one of Europe’s most talented and well known street artists), Martyn started his own label 3024 in November of 2007. The label is a playground for all the music (in various styles) Martyn is producing and collaborations with other artists. The first release came out in December 2007 - "Velvet / Twenty Four" - and was followed up in June 08 by "Natural Selection / Vancouver." Both these releases received an enormous amount of good press and DJ/radio play, and were followed by two impressive remixes by Flying Lotus and fellow dutchman 2562. With 3024's fourth release, a solo release by 2562, and fifth, Martyn’s debut album “Great Lengths” (released on April 20th 2009), Martyn and 3024 have garnerd praise accross the world.

Pitchfork has called Martyn, "one of dubstep's most versatile tallents"; Mixmag called Martyn's "Great Lengths" the "sleeper hit of 2009"; and XLRBR review of "Great Lengths" gave the album 9.5 out of 10.

As a DJ, Martyn has played illustrous venues such as Berghain, Robert Johnson, Fabric, Plastic People, Watergate, The End, Cielo, Club Love and festivals like BLOC, Mutek, Iceland Airwaves, Lowlands, Sonar, and Camp Bisco. He has also become a regular at Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder events.

"Martyn's 'Great Lengths' album was the sleeper hit of 2009. Now the Dutchman is back with an astonishing mix that fuses 'future garage', house, dubstep, UK funky and more in the comp of the year so far." - Mixmag reviewing Martyn's 'Fabric 50' mix

"Can Martyn do any wrong now? The only sane conclusion is no." - DJ Magazine reviewing Martyn's 'Fabric 50" mix (4.5 out of 5)

"By encapsulating the zeitgeist of forward-looking electronic music in a completely listenable album, 'Great Lengths' achieves something truly special in the pantheon of dance music." - XLRBR reviewing Martyn's "Great Lengths" album (9.5 out of 10)

"One of dubstep's most versatile tallents." - Pitchfork

It is in the darkest of times that the creative light of the collective human experience shines its brightest. As the challenges that face humanity grow with each passing moment, the desire and necessity to create and experience love and wholeness crystallizes more clearly in the hearts and minds of those ready to shed the negative thought patterns that currently limit human potential.Expanding the capacity to feel, understand, and appreciate the beauty, significance, and potential innately embedded in all points in (space)-time is a principal intention of Agobi Project' s music.

Incorporating organic and digital elements into a singular musical entity, Agobi Project embodies an artistic vision limited only by the boundaries of human thought and feeling. Seeking to uplift, unite, and inform, Agobi Project's original compositions filter elements of jazz, ambient drum n' bass, hip-hop, atmospheric dubstep, and glitch informed IDM through the trans-personal experiences of the trio. The aural experience is delicately balanced between composition and improvisation, premeditation and spontaneity, light and dark, past and future.

Since its conception in November, 2008, Agobi Project has embraced the spirit of the tightly knit community of music lovers through its live shows. Integrating state of the art electronics with live drums, and guitar, Agobi Project creates a high energy display of musical wizardry, both melodic and beat driven, listenable and danceable. Often combining multiple forms of intentional creation (live painting, wire wrapping, crystal displays, etc) into a single show, Agobi Project strives to create a positive, energizing, healing environment wherever it goes.

Partners in the exploration also include a growing number of national artists who have joined the band on stage, including percussionist Chuck Morris from Lotus, Curt Heiny from Telepath, and the Emcee PegLeg. They have also shared performances with a diverse array of artists including Shpongle, Eliot Lipp, Telepath, Benga, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, The Egg, Ott, Toubab Krewe, and Two Fresh. Look for the self titled debut album from Agobi Project coming in January 2010!

Forming a little over a year ago, the five members of Zoogma have already added their unique voice to the live electronic-rock scene. Evolving in Oxford, MS, Zoogma’s sound can be described as an eclectic fusion of Electronica, Rock, World,Jazz, and Hip-Hop. This blend of genres results in a musical experience that appeals to a range of audiences, with a sound that is refreshingly original yet steeped in the dance music tradition.

A Zoogma show combines the sonic diversity and precision of a DJ with the excitement and immediacy of a five piece rock group. Known for their energetic performances and retina pleasing light show, Zoogma consistently dishes out heavy-weight beat-driven dance parties across the nation. Sets are kinetic, combining carefully crafted beats and melodic textures so that one can't help but get out on the dance-floor.

Sharing the stage or performing late-night after-parties for such national acts as STS9, Widespread Panic, Pnuma Trio, Galactic, Perpetual Groove, Lotus, Umphrey's McGee, Les Claypool, Matisyahu, Lord T and Eloise, and Boombox, Zoogma is poised to electrify new audiences while gaining friends and fans along the way!

Cosmic funk, space rock or psychedelic trance rock - whatever you want to call it, Silver Machine is a new band out of Asheville, NC which mixes tight funky grooves with wild experimentation. Featuring a 'Theremin' (a retro-futuristic electronic instrument from the 1920's), Silver Machine has a spooky, laptop-free, far-out sound alot like the old Science Fiction and Horror film soundtracks from the past. The band has a sound all of its own, while influenced by classic bands like Pink Floyd, and newer bands like Sound Tribe Sector Nine and Ozric Tentacles.

Silver Machine formed at the beginning of 2008 and features members from 'The Royal We', 'Fuzzy Bucket', 'Pond Rock' and 'Count Blastula'. Their enthusiastic sound is a unique improvisational mix of spooky psychedelia, acid rock, and a healthy dose of funk. The idea is to create an atmosphere that encourages honest expression, fluid spontaneity and group elevation.

"As a band, we're always discussing the idea of elevating ourselves and our listeners or trying to take our music to a strange place where we haven't been before... keeping our music open to re-invention and open interpretation... we try to reach a different level of consciousness through music..."

Silver Machine is gaining momentum in Asheville and around the region, performing in clubs throughout NC, SC, TN, and VA, and festivals such as Dexfest, SOULstice, and returning for a 2nd year in a row to Trinumeral & TOUCH Samadhi's Fall Equinox. Recently the band has been performing shows with the Malah, Agobi Project, and Boombox, of which that particular show at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte, will soon have Silver Machine appearing once again on URTV locally; early on Silver Machine played at the Orange Peel for the Moog Foundation's "Mooged-Out" show featuring many of Asheville's talented performers; Silver Machine is performing in festivals, clubs, and parties where people are ready for something out-of-the-ordinary.

Two Fresh consists of twin brothers Sherwyn and Kendrick Nicholls and is accompanied live by drummer Colby Buckler. The twins have been making beats and playing music together since their freshman year of high school. In August of 2008, they began playing shows across the south. In early December they added on Colby on drums for the live setting. Together they bust out some of the freshest tracks, wowing people from all over the spectrum. Packing out venues, they keep the whole place moving with a raw, cutting edge sound that is a combination of hip-hop and jazz that takes electronic music to a whole new level. No matter what your into, Two Fresh will bring you music that is guaranteed to keep you moving. Their sound has begun to grasp the attention of people across the globe.

Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day dot Rusko was surrounded by music whether it be his families pianos, guitars, banjos and saxophonesor in his later years the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Ruskos life.

After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through SUB DUB and a debut appearance from the Digital Mystikz, having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities with Sub Soldiers label mate Caspa.

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko bought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive and quickly coined his own take on the genre and turned the scene upside down. His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit Cockney Thug has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold. And has been remixed by Buraka Som Sistema, Diplo, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.

His sound continues to develop with different BPMs that lean to jungle, house, hip hop or electro, either way, whatever BPM or tempo . . . you can immediately tell a Rusko track.

At 23 Rusko is only in 1st gear, with collaborations on the table with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Yo Majesty and Wiley the future sure is looking bright. Already setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists such as Adele, A-Trak featuring Kid Sister, Leon Jean-Marie Rusko is only going in one direction. Onwards, upwards and far beyond any producer could dream of. Rusko is like Dr Dre, Timbaland and Switch all rolled into one with a serious overdose of bass.

BONOBO
It never fails to amaze me how swiftly a moment of fortune can so easily become a noose round the neck. Especially in the oh so fickle world of the music biz. In the case of Bonobo the moment, or perhaps the year, of fortune came when he released his debut album 'Animal Magic', at the precise time that 'chill' was the buzz word on everyone's lips. Never mind the fact that, even on the evidence of those first efforts, he was a truly gifted producer, you can't beat the power of the buzz. As is the way of these things, the buzz became the murmur, and soon became the background hum, as endless chillout comps, ads, and media campaigns swamped the shore of our consciousness.

A young Simon Green (for it is he who is the monkey king) refused to be dragged down by the lazy journalistic prose that labeled him 'chillout' and 'downtempo'. Far from it. He upped the stakes, and indeed, even stuck his neck out, moving from his original label Tru Thoughts to Ninja Tune, and set about taking things to the next level.

Cos it's all about the levels with Bonobo. Not in a techy, studio kinda way, but in the levels of involvement with his music. On the surface there are the organic, pastoral atmospheres, the catchy melodies, the elements that caught people from his first album. You can engage with a Bonobo tune in that way if you wish, and will be well rewarded for it. But it's the deeper, slightly hidden levels that you should investigate, for they bring the greatest prize. It's these elements that he explored on 'Dial M For Monkey', as a greater focus on live instruments, the intricacies of rhythm, the darker shades of the soul, and almost a sleight of hand, that meant that you could be in one mood one minute, and the next you would somewhere different.

'Dial M For Monkey' showed the set of brass balls that Bonobo (like his namesake) had, and these would be tested again as he set about building his live band. He duly found the right musicians, self financing rehearsals, and fine tuning a live show that brought out the elements of his music that had hitherto gone largely unnoticed, as the band swung and rocked their way through shows at Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Jazz Cafe, and internationally exotic settings from Italy to Russia.

He set about building his DJ style in the same way, refusing to conform to the preconceived ideas of a laid back style, and aiming headlong for the dancefloor, with a heavy mixture of hip hop, weighty jazz, broken beats, Latin, funk, and soul, with the occasional cheeky bit of psyche rock and drum and bass thrown in. Just to keep you on yer toes right? Now a DJ of international repute, Bonobo has played all over the world, including playing to huge audiences in the USA and Canada with Amon Tobin, a progress culminating in Ninja Tune asking him to put together a Solid Steel mix album. Bugger the lounge, lets dance.

Now, with the expectations duly dispatched with the good hiding they deserve, the field is wide open for Bonobo to push himself even further, and we await the next album, due late 2005 / early 2006, with our minds well and truly opened to the possibilities.

"Lots of live shit", says Bonobo."Strings, horns, drums and vocals. More energy and a bigger, heavier sound".

Come on then son.
